Here's how to get the most out of Health Data Widgets — and how to reach me if something isn't working.

How to add the widget
- Long-press an empty area on your Home Screen until the icons jiggle.
- Tap Edit in the top-left, then Add Widget.
- Search for Health Data Widgets.
- Pick a size (Small, Medium, or Large) and tap Add Widget.
How to choose what the widget shows
Each widget instance can display a different metric. To change it, long-press the widget on your Home Screen, tap Edit Widget, and pick a metric (currently Steps or Distance).
I added the widget but it shows four pink dashes
That means one of two things:
- The app hasn't been granted Apple Health access yet. Open the Health Data Widgets app and tap Enable Health Access.
- Your device doesn't have any data yet for that metric today. The widget will update automatically once Apple Health has a sample (usually within a few minutes of walking, once you have your phone with you).
I granted access, but the widget still shows dashes
Try opening the app once and tap Settings → Reset to defaults. That clears the cache and forces a fresh fetch. If you previously declined access, you'll need to re-grant it in iOS Settings → Apple Health → Data Access & Devices → Health Data Widgets.
The widget heading or sublabel is taking up too much space
Open the app, tap Settings, and turn off Show widget heading and/or Show widget sublabel. The widget will update within a few seconds. Both toggles apply to every Home Screen widget.
Will you add more health data types?
Yes — Distance was added in v0.2 alongside Steps. More health metrics (e.g. active energy, resting heart rate) are planned. Email hdw@fn11.net if there's a specific one you'd like.
Is my data private?
Yes. The app reads your Apple Health data only with your permission, caches it on your device, and never transmits it. See the Privacy Policy for the full version.
